AI PDF Editor, Reader & Sign ("we", "our", or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how our AI-powered PDF editing and summarization application handles your information.

Our Privacy Commitment

PDF Editor uses cloud services to provide AI-powered features while respecting your privacy. We collect only the minimum data necessary to deliver our services and never sell your personal information.

Information We Collect

Stored Locally on Your Device

  • PDF Documents: Files you open, edit, or process within the app.
  • Editing Data: Signatures, annotations, highlights, text edits, and saved edit drafts.
  • Bookmarks: Pages you bookmark in your documents.
  • AI Chat History: Your conversations with the AI assistant about PDFs.
  • Cached Summaries: Generated summaries for faster access.
  • Extracted Text Cache: Text extracted from your PDFs, stored locally to power AI features without re-reading the file.
  • Remembered PDF Passwords: Document passwords you ask the app to remember, stored locally on your device only.
  • Recent Searches: Your recent in-app search queries.
  • Preferences: Theme, language, reading, and app settings.

Stored in the Cloud (Firebase)

  • Device Identifier (ANDROID_ID): We explicitly collect an anonymous device identifier to manage AI usage limits and subscription tiers without requiring a user account.
  • User ID: A server-issued anonymous identifier linked to your device ID, used for support and usage management.
  • Advertising ID (AAID): We collect the resettable Android Advertising ID via Firebase Analytics for analytics purposes only — to measure app usage patterns, feature engagement, and installation attribution. It is not linked to your personal identity and is not used to serve or personalize ads.
  • Usage Limits: Remaining AI credits and feature usage counts.
  • Subscription Status: Your plan tier (free/premium) and expiry date.
  • Timezone: For proper limit resets and time-based features.

What We Do NOT Collect

  • ❌ Your PDF file contents are not uploaded to our servers
  • ❌ Personal information (name, email, phone number) — no account required
  • ❌ Location data
  • ❌ Browsing history or behavior tracking

App Permissions

  • Storage / All files access: To browse, open, read, edit, and save PDF documents stored on your device.
  • Internet & Network State: To deliver AI features, verify subscriptions, and check for app updates.

Storage access is used solely for PDF file management — the app never reads unrelated personal files or media for any other purpose.

AI Features & Data Processing

PDF Editor uses Google's Gemini AI to provide intelligent features like summarization, Q&A, and translation. Here's how it works:

Text Extraction PDF text is extracted locally on your device
AI Processing Only extracted text (not the PDF file) is sent to Gemini AI for processing. Follow-up questions include your recent conversation context so the assistant stays on topic.
Response Caching AI responses are cached locally to reduce API calls
Read Aloud Uses your device's built-in text-to-speech engine — summary text is not sent anywhere for read-aloud

Important Disclosure Regarding Document Processing

When you utilize our AI features (such as "Chat" or "Summarize"), we extract text from your PDF documents and transmit it to third-party AI providers (Google Gemini / Firebase AI) for processing. Your documents are only processed ephemerally. We do not permanently store your document contents on our servers, and they are immediately discarded by the AI after generating a response.

Subscriptions & Billing

Our app offers premium features through in-app purchases and subscriptions. All payment processing is securely handled by Google Play Billing.

  • Payment Information: We do not collect, process, or store your credit card or payment details. All transactions are managed directly by Google Play.
  • Purchase Verification: We only store anonymous purchase tokens and subscription status in our database to unlock premium features and manage usage limits on your device.

Cloud Services

PDF Editor uses Firebase by Google for backend services:

  • Firebase Cloud Functions: Manage your anonymous user record, usage limits, and subscription verification
  • Firebase AI Logic: Connects the app to Gemini AI for summarization, chat, and translation
  • Firebase Crashlytics: Collects anonymous crash reports to improve app stability
  • Firebase App Check (Play Integrity): Protects our backend from abuse by verifying that requests come from a genuine app install
No Cloud Backup of Your Data

The app explicitly disables Android's cloud backup (allowBackup=false). Your local app data — documents, chats, summaries, drafts, and settings — is never copied to Google Drive or any other cloud backup service. It lives only on your device.

Firebase data is secured with encryption and follows Google's Firebase Privacy Policy.

How We Use Your Data

We use the collected information to:

  • Provide Core Features: Enable PDF editing, signing, and processing
  • Power AI Features: Deliver summarization, Q&A, and translation capabilities
  • Manage Limits: Track usage for free and premium tiers
  • Improve Stability: Analyze crash reports to fix bugs
  • Reset Usage: Periodically refresh feature limits based on your plan

We Never:

  • ❌ Sell your data to third parties
  • ❌ Use your PDFs for training AI models
  • ❌ Use the Advertising ID to serve or personalize ads (analytics only)
  • ❌ Track you across other apps or websites

Data Retention & Deletion

How Long We Keep Your Data

  • Local Data: Stored on your device until you delete the app, clear app data, or remove it yourself (e.g. clearing chat or deleting drafts)
  • Cloud Data: Your anonymous device record and usage counts are kept as long as you use the app
  • AI Processing: Extracted text sent to Gemini AI is used only to generate your response and is not retained by us
  • Crash Reports: Anonymized crash logs retained for 90 days

How to Delete Your Data

Please note that this app does not require account creation. Your cloud data is associated only with an anonymous device identifier.

Uninstall:

Uninstalling removes all local data. You need to request to delete your cloud data.

Email Request:

Contact contact@apptiline.com with your device ID to request cloud data deletion. We will respond as soon as possible.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by:

  • Posting the new Privacy Policy in the app and on this page
  • Updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy
  • Sending an in-app notification for material changes
